The front of the shell

It features a leather three pad leather liner similar to the German WW1 helmet and to the front displays a truly impressive large gilt/brass Police Helmet Badge of a CROWN over an oval containing THREE CROWNS and a variant pair of crossed ROMAN FASCES (a bundle of rods bound bound together with a protruding axe head as a symbol of Authority)

so it definitely did see use after conversion

It remains in good original condition, with most of its olive drab green paint still intact. The periscope includes its original adjustable leg and belt clip. The periscope utilizes two opposing glass mirrors, one on top and one on the bottom, held in a wooden case that is secured together by twisted wire.
